The future vision for London Waterloo station.
London Waterloo, serving as the main transportation hub for Winchester commuters, recently disclosed their ambitious plans for the station's future development. Featured on the Network Rail website are artistic renderings of the proposed renovation and revitalisation, focusing on enhancements to the northern concourse and the station's undercroft.
Lambeth Council, Network Rail, and many other partners have worked together on a big plan for London Waterloo station and the area around it. The plan aims to improve the station and the neighbourhood, making it safer and easier for people to travel, encouraging walking and biking, and helping the local economy.
Waterloo station is built above brick arches that are currently not in use - the 210-page master document outlines plans to turn these into shops and restaurants with escalators directly up to the newly improved (and widened) platforms. The plan also includes 40+ enhanced walking and cycling routes, and 15+ improved gateways to the station and the City, helping encourage more active forms of travel and onward travel from the station.
London Waterloo station is the third busiest transportation center in the country, with 57.8 million people entering and exiting last year. It serves as a main entry point to the City, the Waterloo and South Bank area, and popular cultural spots like the Southbank Centre, National Theatre, BFI, the Old Vic, and the London Eye.
