St Cross, Winchester.

One of Winchester’s most desirable areas, St Cross is a short walk from Winchester City Centre and nestled perfectly next to the water meadows. Here you will find stunning detached homes with views over St Catherine’s Hill as well as beautiful historic houses on cobbled streets. When houses come up for sale in St Cross, they don’t stick around for long.

Hospital of St Cross

Officially called The Hospital of St Cross and Almshouse of Noble Poverty, it was founded in 1132, making it the oldest almshouse in England and arguably the oldest charity in the country.

It’s also a stunning wedding venue and a popular spot for anyone wanting to soak up some uninterrupted beauty.

Hockley Railway Viaduct

Built in the late 1880s by the London and South Western Railway (LSWR), the viaduct provided a link over the River Itchen and water meadows to the LSWR's main line. The viaduct was last used as a railway in 1966… nowadays it forms part of the National Cycle Network (Route 23).

The Water Meadows

John Keats, the English Romantic poet, composed "To Autumn" after a walk along the water meadows one autumnal evening in 1819.

The water meadows still provides a stunning walk - no matter the season. The walk will take you along the River Itchen past Wolvesey Castle, Winchester College and St Catherine’s Hill.

St Catherine’s Hill

Positioned next to St. Cross, this 110 acre site is listed as a scheduled monument due to the majority of the hill being an Iron Age hillfort. It also provides a great walk with far-reaching views over the entire City.
